Multiple Land Use

Many organizations on Texel develop activities in the field of land-use and landscape on Texel and there is a clear need for an organization to bring all these existing initiatives and ideas together in order to create added value.

Workshop

The Foundation organized a workshop on 31 October and 1November 2003, to which numerous organizations were invited in order to list issues and opportunities. A list of concrete ideas emerged from this workshop, ideas which may be implemented in the near future.

Trip to Gelderland

On 16 September 2004, around 30 Texelaars visited a number of projects in the field of multiple land-use in the province of Gelderland. All of the participants were involved with the Hoge Berg area in one way or another. The purpose of the trip was, on the one hand, to get to know one another better as well as each other’s ideas, and, on the other hand, to see how other areas deal with the issues and to find new inspiration.

Hoge Berg

The Hoge Berg area ("High Mountain") is one of Texels most beautiful landscapes. However, the area is under high pressure: the actual (sheep) farmers don't earn enough to survive.

Several organizations on the island are making plans for the survival of the farmers. The Foundation of a Sustainable Texel will coordinate these plans, to prevent fragmentation. In December 2004 a project to make a Masterplan for the Hoge Berg area has started. Result of the plan has to be the conservation of the beautiful landscape and the survival of most of the farmers.
